Here's an example of a short workshop and how quickly a great piece of urban art can be produced. GraffitiArtist.co.uk was asked by Steve Boyle at Jardine Crescent Youth Centre to run 2 short workshops for 2 schools involved in a fun day. There were other activities going on but we were given a 1 hour slot with each school group of about 12 students and 1 brave teacher. The young people were all kitted out with overalls, masks and gloves and given a Health and Safety chat before bouncing some ideas off each other as to what they wanted to paint on their 8' x 4' board. The groups came up with classic graffiti letters and eye catching colour combinations to adorn their canvas, so we got cracking. Taking it in turns, 1 at a time, the mini murals soon took shape and were finished in no time. The students learnt how to work to a brief, use the space to its maximum potential and create pieces of art to show off at their schools for all their pals to see. Many of the pupils didn't think they could paint using aerosol but with the right guidence it's easy to conquer their fears, have a go and gain confidence, even the teachers! Everyone agreed that the finished pieces looked great, and realised that it was a team effort to reach the goal. Each group did all this in 1 hour each.
